Finito!

The holiday knitting marathon is finally complete-well, sort of. Let's start from the beginning.

Back in October I was in Minnesota to see my family. My mom and I went to a great Michael's there and I saw some yarn that caught my attention. As soon as I saw the colors grouped together, I knew I wanted to make an afghan for Casey's parents for Christmas. The afghan is made of this great Red Heart yarn called TLC amore. I used four different colors: Celery, Sand, Dark Thyme, and Light Thyme. Crap, I can't think of the material it resembles. Not cashmere, ugh! What's it called?

Well, I started the afghan in October and by Thanksgiving, was pretty convinced that I hated it. I was using a lacy pattern on size 17s, but it just totally sucked. I was about 25% of the way done and then ignored it for a month. So on December 22nd I knew I had to make a decision. Either I give Casey's parents a piece of crap I hate or make them wait for their Christmas present. Given the date of this posting, you can tell which choice I made.

I found a pattern at the back of one of my knitting magazines and, of course, improvised. I learned something called the double knit. It means you K1, slip one with the working yarn in front. Then When you go back, you do that vice versa. So for each row I'd knit 22, double knit 22. I used size 13 needles.

Now, the bad boy is complete and I'm really happy with it. I'm bummed that the present is so late, but I'm glad with the end results. I actually saw Casey's mom knitting with some of the same exact yarn in November. I freaked out a little bit, and Casey told me I should just steal the yarn! But I knew better than that- knitters know!

I don't want to post a pic yet because I haven't yet sewn in the ends. That will take a while because the colors alternate so much. Surprisingly, it wasn't all that painful to tear out the first monster. I guess that's getting easier.

Okeedoke, we'll see the final product when it's actually finito!
